The Effect of Propranolol on Peripheral Manifestation of Thyrotoxicosis

Abstract

Authors studied the effectiveness of beta adrenergic blockade (propranolol) on various peritheral manifestations in 16 cases of thyrotoxicosis who had been visited Department of Internal Medicine, Pusan University Hospital since April 1971 to Oct. 1971. The assessment of effectiveness was done clinically after administration of the drug for one week, each day of 160 mg four devided doses. The effect was most remarkable in ameliorating tachycardia, palpitation and BMR and also effective to somewhat lesser extent for nervousness, tremor, sweating, fatigability and shortness of breath. Authors were also impressed that trial with increased dosage would deserved to be done.
